The Road to Attachment
What is attachment and how does it relate to children adopted internationally?
To understand how children attach and bond, one must understand the attachment process. Every adopted child, even those adopted as newborns, has suffered a level of trauma, which is being separated from their birth mother. There is research that shows attachment develops throughout pregnancy but how does an adoptive parent bond and promote attachment with their new child?
Learn the reasons children attach and how you can begin the process with your little one.

Becoming an Adoptive Family
When you adopt a child from another country, whether that child is of another race or not, the family dynamic is changed forever. Your family becomes a trans-racial and/or trans-cultural family forever.
Adoptive parents need to keep that in mind when making the decision to adopt internationally and when choosing the country from which they are adopting. Each parent needs to think about their thoughts and ideas on race and culture, and perhaps their misconceptions and even racial and cultural stereotypes.
Begin the steps of becoming an adoptive family.

Effects of Institutionalization
Children adopted internationally often face tenuous beginnings that will have an affect on their lives.
Learn about the symptoms and process to work with malnutrition, developmental delays, physical delays, emotional delays, illnesses and other issues that you may face as an adoptive parent.
Learn to help heal your child to become a happy, healthy, loving child.

Travel & Transition
Most prospective adoptive parents would be willing to board the plane tomorrow to bring their child home. But. . .are you really ready to bring her home?
Prepare by reading. Take a look at the list of suggested reading materials for yourself and children's books for your new child.
Talk with other prospective parents and parents who have "been there, done that" by joining an online group.
Review the suggested items to take on your trip and complete the recommended tasks before boarding that plane.

Regional Considerations
Life in other countries is NOT the same as living in the United States. There are different living conditions, customs, and beliefs. Learning information about your child's birth country will help when traveling to that country but will also enable your family to embrace and teach your child about his heritage.
Countries include: - China - Russia - Ethiopia - Kazakhstan - South Korea - Vietnam - Ukraine
Others to be added soon. Please contact us at info@adoptivesolutions.com to make a special request.
